I am a Yoga Alliance certified pregnancy yoga teacher.

I take a holistic approach to teaching pregnancy yoga, as well as finding a safe way to exercise with your precious load, I also work on the emotional need of the expectant Mum. The class is suitable for beginners but will also appeal to people that have an existing yoga practice. The class offers a balance of breath work, stretching, postures and cool down /relaxation with the added bonus of meeting and bonding with other pregnant women. Take time out to connect and bond with your unborn baby, while learning invaluable tools to help you through pregnancy, the birth and beyond.

If you are interested in coming along, please wait until after your first scan (approx 12 weeks). The class runs as a drop in basis but it's a good idea to get in touch to let me know you are coming to make sure there is space. Arrive 5-10 minutes before the class on your first time to fill in a health questionnaire. Please bring water, we have everything else (mats, bolsters, blankets) you will need.

Pregnancy and birth is the largest emotional and physical change that a woman’s body will undergo. It is a time of great change where women become more aware of the workings of their body, and as the baby grows in the womb, the extra weight results in an altered centre of gravity and postural changes which can lead to a variety of aches and pains including lower back and pelvic pain. Many women find however that with regular practice of yoga and breathing exercises the body becomes more balanced thanks to an increase in physical strength, helping to support the body whilst carrying the baby.  Muscle tension is also stretched away leading to a calmer mind and improved sleep.

Emotional benefits of practicing pregnancy yoga:

  • Attending a class provides a safe space for the mother to rest, relax and reconnect
  • The mother can meet other like – minded women and gain a sense of community
  • Helps the mother and baby connect with each other
  • Classes can help to improve acceptance of the pregnancy and pending motherhood
  • Can help manage anxiety and pre – natal depression
  • Can increase confidence and self-esteem, which may help during labour
  • Can share feeling and connect with other women

Physical benefits of practicing pregnancy yoga include:

  • Yoga asana (postures) can make physical space, allowing the pregnant mum to feel more comfortable in her body
  • Improves sleep
  • Increases lung capacity
  • Increases strength, flexibility and endurance of muscles needed for childbirth. Also increased stamina preparing for birth and early motherhood
  • Releases tension in achy muscles, especially in the lower back, shoulders and neck area.
